What is the Liver MOT?
Many forms of liver disease develop silently, with no obvious symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. The Liver MOT is a proactive health assessment designed to give you a clear picture of your liver health — well before disease takes hold.
Unlike a standard GP check, this is a specialist-led review by a consultant hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgeon who works with liver disease every day in a major NHS unit. You will leave with a written report and a personalised action plan, not just a set of numbers.
What is included
Detailed symptom review
A full review of your symptoms, medical history, alcohol intake, medications, and family history.
Blood test review
Assessment of liver function, metabolic markers, and any previous blood results you have.
FibroScan elastography
Non-invasive measurement of liver stiffness and fat levels. Results in minutes, no needles required.
Lifestyle assessment
Expert advice on weight, diet, exercise and alcohol — tailored to your results.
Further investigations
Discussion of whether ultrasound, biopsy or specialist referral is needed.
Written action plan
A personalised written report summarising findings and a clear plan going forward.
Who is it for?
The Liver MOT is suitable for anyone who wants reassurance about their liver health, or who has a reason to be concerned. This includes people who:
- Have been told they have fatty liver or raised liver enzymes
- Have type 2 diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome
- Have a family history of liver disease
- Have or suspect fatty liver disease or raised liver enzymes
- Use alcohol regularly, even within recommended limits
- Simply want a proactive check from a specialist
Detect liver damage early with FibroScan
FibroScan is a non-invasive ultrasound-based test that measures liver stiffness and fat levels in minutes — giving you and your doctor a clear picture of your liver health without the need for a biopsy. It is the same technology used in specialist liver units across the NHS.
Where standard blood tests may appear normal even in the presence of early fibrosis, FibroScan detects structural changes in the liver tissue itself. Early assessment can be life-changing.
Available locations
The Liver MOT will be available at Spire Leeds Hospital, Spire Methley Park, and Nuffield Health Leeds from 2026. Register your interest below and you will be among the first to be contacted when booking opens.
